There are countless articles written about this, so I decided to do a tally system and try to pin down a top 5 list that could be most agreed upon. Here are the results
5. Schindler's List
Starring Liam Neelson and Ben Kingsly. Directed by Steven Spielberg, Schindler's List takes place during world war II. In the film Oskar Schindler saves the lives of more than a 1000 polish-jewish refugees from the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. Winner of the best picture award in 1993.
4. Platoon
Directed by Oliver Stone. Starring Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, and Charlie Sheen.
Academy award for best picture of 1986, Platoon is set during the Vietnam War, and written from the perspective of Oliver Stone's experiences during the war. It was the first film to be written and directed by a Vietnam Veteran. 3. Full Metal Jacket
Full Metal Jacket is a British/American war film directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick. The films story follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their training, as well as the experiences of two of the platoons Marines in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War.
2. Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan is an American war film set during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II. Starring Tom Hanks, Ed Burns, Matt Damon and Tom Sizemore, the film is notable for its graphic display of war. The intense opening 27 minutes, depicting the Assault on Omaha Beach June 6th, 1944, is often hailed as the most realistic depiction of the event. The film was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry, by the Library of Congress, being deemed culturally, historically and aesthetically significant.

Apocalypse Now was produced and co-written by Francis Ford Coppala. Starring a Hall of Fame cast including, Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper and Fredric Forrest, The film revolves around Captain Benjamin L. Willard (Sheen) on a secret mission to assassinate Colonel Kurtz, a renegade who's presumed insane. Considered on numerous top war movie lists as the greatest war related movie of all-time.
